Frequently asked questions

Is the sky really accurate?

Yes. We calculate the position of about 5,000 stars visible to the naked eye for the exact place, date and time, including the precession of the equinoxes and your local time zone with daylight saving.

What if I do not know the exact time?

Use an approximate time: the sky turns by about 15 degrees per hour, so the stars are still the right ones. Midnight is a good default.

Can I use a date in the past or the future?

Any date works, from a wedding in a few months back to a birth many years ago.

Which stars are shown?

All stars visible to the naked eye under a dark sky (magnitude 6 and brighter) and the lines of the 88 official constellations.
